Reasons for Hope (Dr. Jane Goodall HKU Lecture)
As the 21st century global citizens, we are increasingly reflexive towards the manufactured risks and the subsequent impacts brought by modern developments to nature, human lives and other non-human beings. Environmental issues, sustainable development, and human-animal relationships are the compelling issues we all confront today. Amid all the difficulties and challenges, Dr. Goodall will share with us her experience and insights to remain hopeful for a better future.
Dr. Goodall will bring us into the world of the Gombe chimpanzees and the work of the Jane Goodall Institute – from her early observations and experiences to the latest news and stories from the field. She will discuss the current threats facing the planet and her five reasons for hope in these complex times, highlighting her 5th and newest reason for hope, the power of social media. Everyone has the power to make a positive difference every day as we can let our voices be heard through social media and other means – we have a key role to play in the reasons for hope.
Date: November 11, 2016 (Friday)
Venue: Loke Yew Hall, Main Building, The University of Hong Kong

An Anthropological Talk by Joyce Lau of the Jane Goodall Institute (Hong Kong)
Presented by the Hong Kong Anthropological Society and the Hong Kong Museum of History
Wednesday 31 August 2011, 7:00pm8:00pm (free admission, no registration required)
Hong Kong Museum of History
Lecture Hall, Ground Floor, 100 Chatham Road, Tsim Sha Tsui
In 1960, 26-year-old Jane Goodall started her groundbreaking study of wild chimpanzees in Tanzania. Her work would prove to be more successful than anyone could have possibly imagined. She would become known as "the woman who redefined man". As much as she loved her work, she decided to give up her career as a primatologist and became an activist some 20 years ago. Today, her work revolves around mobilizing action on behalf of not only chimpanzees, but of all animals, people and the environment. Her youth education program, "Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots", empowers young people to create positive change. In Hong Kong and across the globe, hundreds of thousands of Roots & Shoots members are taking action to address issues ranging from homelessness to countryside cleanups. The talk will look at the extraordinary life of Jane Goodall and the global movement she started.
The Lecture is conducted in English.
