Website Privacy Policy

The Jane Goodall Institute (Hong Kong) (JGI-HK) recognizes the importance of protecting the privacy of personal information collected from our website. Personal information includes your email address, contact information, comments, and "click stream" data which tracks how you use our online services. We have adopted a Website Privacy Policy to guide how we collect, store and use this personal information.

1. Personally-Identifiable Information

In general, you can visit JGI-HK web pages without telling us who you are or revealing any personal information about yourself. We will notify you before we collect any personally-identifiable information about you (i.e. your name, email address, and contact information), and will not collect any information unless you choose to provide it to us.

2. General browsing information

If you visit our site to read or download information, we may collect and store the following information about you in order to measure the number of visitors to the different sections of our site, and to help us make our site more useful to visitors:

• The name of the domain from which you access the Internet
• The date and time you access our site
• The Internet address of the web site from which you linked directly to our site
• The pages that you visit while on our site

3. Information collected from donors

In order to process donations and purchases from our online store, and to provide donors and customers with a high level of service, JGI-HK must collect personal information including address andphone number where applicable. Only JGI-HK staff has access to our database where this information is securely kept. The Jane Goodall Institute (Hong Kong) does not rent or sell its donor or member lists to third parties.

4. Publicly Sharing Your Information

JGI-HK often receives information from website visitors who have successfully participated in our programs and/or used our resources. In certain instances, we would like to share the comments and stories we receive by posting this information on our website. We will not, however, publicly share any information we receive on our website without first receiving express consent of the individual who submitted the information. Furthermore, we will not post information in any way that specifically identifies the sender of that information unless the sender approves it. Nowhere on our website will we post personally identifiable information about minors without first receiving the express written consent of their parent or guardian.

5. Access and accuracy

Where we collect personal information from you on the web, our goal is to provide a means of contacting JGI-HK should you need to update or correct that information. If for any reason you wish to access your information, you may do so by writing to info@janegoodall.org.hk and we will make reasonable efforts to incorporate the changes in your personal information that we hold as soon as possible.

7. Sites Linked From the Jane Goodall Institute Web Site

The sites linked from the Jane Goodall Institute website are not under the Jane Goodall Institute's control, and the Jane Goodall Institute does not assume any responsibility or liability for any communications or materials available at such linked sites. The Jane Goodall Institute does not intend links on the Jane Goodall Institute Web site to be referrals or endorsements of the linked entities; they are provided for convenience only.

Partnerships in Understanding Privacy Policy

In order to participate in the Partnerships in Understanding (PIU) correspondence exchange under the Roots & Shoots program, eligible Roots & Shoots groups need to provide a contact name, physical mailing and e-mail addresses, telephone number(s), fax number (if possible), an age bracket and gender ratio. Only JGI-HK staff and authorised volunteers have access to this personal information, in order to assign groups to one another.  The partner groups receive each other's contact information. JGI-HK takes reasonable steps to ensure that all third parties protect sensitive information that have been provided.  

JGI-HK securely keeps all Roots & Shoots group information electronically and in hardcopy files; these are archived on a yearly basis. The group's personal information is only disposed of upon the group's request or based on group inactivity. If you no longer want to be a part of the PIU program, please e-mail us at info@janegoodall.org.hk and we will remove your group from our database.

Partnership in Understanding groups: The success of the PIU program depends on your cooperation. The Jane Goodall Institute (Hong Kong) must give out your personal information to other groups in order for the program to work. In exchange, we are counting on you not to share that sensitive information with others, unless authorized by JGI. Unauthorized sharing of personal information to third parties is a violation of our Privacy Policy. We thank you for your understanding and adherence to this request.

The Jane Goodall Institute (Hong Kong) reserves the right to amend these policies at any time.
